Adult Sailing Membership
CSF offers adults and their family access to sailboats on Jordan Lake without the hassle of owning or renting. Our sailboats are available at Crosswinds Boating Center on weekends in 3-hour intervals, during the spring (April through mid-June) and in the fall (September through mid-November). Weekday reservations may also be made upon request.
Membership privileges Include:
- Access to our fleet of keelboats: Hunter 21, Beneteau 22, and J/70
- Open Sailing – once you are skipper qualified, the boat is for you and your capable crew to sail. Up to 3 additional family members or guests are welcome.
- Shore support by our Dock Supervisor, including on-the-water response if needed.
- Participation in Social Sails and special events with other members.
Here's how it works:
- You must be at least 21 years old to skipper a boat.
- If you have no sailing knowledge or experience, complete our weekend Learn to Sail course or other basic sailing course to get the basics. Then, click on the Membership Interest button below and complete the information form. We will contact you to schedule Skipper Training to qualify you for membership. Skipper Training typically can be completed in two 3-hour sessions, a total of 6 hours. These are private lessons with an instructor. The fee is $50/hour.
- If you are already an experienced skipper, click on the Membership Interest button below and complete the information form. We will contact you to schedule a 1 to 2-hour Check-out by an instructor to qualify you for membership. The fee is $50/hour.
- You will need at least one capable crew that should be at least 15 years old.
- Once you are skipper qualified, you may purchase a Membership. Seasonal Memberships are available for $400 per season. If you join within a season, your fee will be pro-rated.
- All skippers must review and sign an “Assumption of Risk Waiver and Release Agreement” including the “Rules of Safety and Conduct” which provide more details. In addition to you and your capable crew, up to 3 additional guests may join you at no additional charge. All crew and guests must have a signed 1 page waiver on file.
- You can then go on-line to seek boat availability and schedule an Open Sail on the boat you were qualified on. Please schedule at least 1 day in advance.
- You may cancel or reschedule for any reason. This especially applies if the weather forecast or actual conditions exceed our guidelines. If possible, please cancel no later than the day before.
- When you all arrive, an onsite Dock Supervisor will do a check out, provide you a VHF radio for communications, provide any needed assistance, and check you back in when returning. All must wear a personal floatation device (PFD), which is provided.
- To qualify to sail a different keelboat model, a dock orientation with an instructor will be provided at no charge. Additional Skipper Training may be needed at the hourly rate.
